Kat & Kin Coffee Roasters is a family-owned specialty coffee venture based in Chennai that emerged during the global lockdown, when its founder began roasting coffee at home while searching for exceptional beans. The project grew into a dedicated roastery driven by an interest in understanding the journey of coffee from seed to cup and the many people involved along the way. The founders emphasise sourcing high-quality green coffee while maintaining awareness of origin and the producers behind each lot, reflecting a desire to support fair returns to growers and transparency in sourcing. The roasting program includes a mix of Indian and international coffees such as Chikmagalur-grown lots, Monsooned Malabar, and origins like Ethiopia and Costa Rica, alongside blends suited to different brewing methods. Head roaster Kathryn, who previously worked as an international school teacher and spent years experiencing coffee cultures in cafés around the world, brings that exposure to the brand’s philosophy of offering thoughtfully roasted coffees for curious and well-travelled drinkers seeking variety and flavour exploration.
